What You Need To Know
About
Organic Skin
Care
Organic skin care:
These products are being touted for their natural goodness
and ultra healing properties. So are these organic skin care
products really better for your skin than other, sometimes
less expensive, products? Most likely, no. Actually you have
to be careful. If it’s perfect skin you’re after, and you
think so many of these so called organic products will give
you perfectly balanced skin, guess again. You might be quite
surprised as to how your skin reacts to some of these
cosmetic solutions.
According to
professionals in the dermatology field, organic skin
care creams
can also cause blemishes and even allergic reactions in
some people. Basically, just because a product is labeled
organic or natural doesn’t mean it’s gentler on your
skin.

The stark reality of
the situation is that there are chemicals in a number of
cosmetic products from moisturizers to makeup. That being
said, many consumers are going natural to avoid certain
ingredients that research shows could be harmful. You’ve
probably heard of these ingredients before. Just take a look
on any ordinary lotion and you’ll find preservatives,
parabens, and phthalates. Some substances can even increase
your risk to certain types of
cancer.
My biggest point
here is that you can still find such harmful ingredients
found in products labeled all-natural or organic. That’s
because the word “organic” is not fully regulated on
personal care products like lotions, shampoos and skin
care products. Not the way organics are regulated within
the food industry. For example, when you see labels on
produce that say “certified by the USDA National Organic
Program” this reassures you that you are getting safely
grown vegetables or fruits.
However, there is
some light at the end of the organic skin
care tunnel.
An organization called the Natural Products Association
is working on a seal of approval for cosmetics. This will
ensure that only skin care products made via strict
standards can be called natural.
One thing you can
do until then is closely read the labels on organic skin
care products. Try to scope out preservatives that might
be added to certain skincare products, especially
lotions. These substances are usually mixed in creams to
lengthen their shelf-live and are typically called
parabens.
By choosing
products that are chemical- and preservative-free you can
go easier on your skin. The reason people want to embrace
truly organic skin
care is
that many chemicals in synthetic products can be toxic or
carcinogenic. That’s scary stuff when you think about how
often you put cosmetic products on your
face.
One final note: be
aware that all-natural and organic ingredients can
sometimes cause reactions to sensitive skin types.
Dermatological studies have show that ingredients such as
jasmine, tea tree oil, and lavender all spurred allergic
reactions in some people.
